Sour Diesel is without a doubt one of the most highly regarded and sought after strains available today. While the true lineage is debated, a common thread of extreme lemon-fuel-skunk pungency runs through all the various phenotypes floating around. The smell is so strong, in fact, that growers need to take extra precautions if secrecy is desired. An excellent choice for daytime pain relief with a creative and energizing compliment, the pungent, but magnetic, scent and taste round out the outstanding attributes of Sour Diesel.

Sour Diesel is undoubtedly the world’s most expensive pot. With yuppies on Wall Street paying $800 to $1,000 per ounce, no wonder it’s so hard to find. Once acquired, however, the real-deal East Coast Sour Diesel reveals what makes it so desired. Powerfully potent with an unmistakable grapefruit taste and lemony odor, ECSD betrays its OG Kush parentage. Known as a low yielder and notoriously difficult to cultivate, the sativa-dominant Sour Diesel takes 70 to 85 days to flower, but it’s well worth the wait. When flowered at 18 inches tall, the plant will easily grow to five feet by the time it’s done, making ECSD perfect for extreme training techniques such as Screen of Green. The strain is “clone-only,” meaning seeds of the original mother plant don’t exist, but Rezdog of Reservoir Seeds has back-crossed the original Sour Diesel several times and is close to establishing it as a stabilized IBL (Inbred Line). The seeds he sells are guaranteed to grow Sour Diesel plants. -From High Times Strains of the Year 2005 by Danny Danko.

From Reserva Privada: The Sour Diesel is a good yielding, stretchy strain that produces light green, frosty, sour flowers that have a pinkish colour when finishing. The Sour Diesel is best if you let it go the full 10 weeks and the taste lingers in your mouth well after the exhale. It is recommended to pinch and bend the tops as she grows because of the stretch, this will also improve yields. If height is an issue, you can still take advantage of this strains stretch in the first 3 weeks by putting your rooted clones directly into flower for a 3-4 foot finish or 1-1.3 meter finish. The Sour Diesel is great for the beginner or the experienced grower because she is not too nutrient sensitive and can be worked to perfection! A favourite among favourites and well documented, you can now add Sour Diesel to your garden and see what all the fuss is about. 91 Chemdawg x Mass Super Skunk/NL. 60% indica / 40% sativa. Flowering Time: 10 weeks. Yield: 450-550 g/m2.

The Sour Diesel cannabis plant is thin and tall when grown outdoors naturally. These beautiful females top out at about 6 feet indoors and develop to display an ever-pleasing Christmas tree shape. As the ladies mature fully, they begin to display purple foliage and pistils with hues of pink. Loose buds, shaped like spears are common. Classification: 90/10 sativa/indica hybrid. Optimal Environment: outdoors, indoors. High yielding. THC Range: 20% and higher. Gardening Skills Required: moderate.

When Original Diesel was accidentally crossed with a DNL plant that hermied, it created seed stock that produced the East Coast Sour Diesel (ECSD) clone. Many seed companies have released crosses with the strain, and some (like Reservoir Seeds) have attempted to reproduce the strain in seed form, releasing a variety of backcrosses and IBLs with varying results.

Additional Information

Sour Diesel is among the most revered & highly coveted breeding lines in all of cannabis. Patients, connoisseurs, growers, and breeders alike have treasured Sour D for decades in part to its unique skunky flavor, soaring electric high, & remarkable therapeutic strength. The flavor, true to its name, packs strong notes of diesel fuel, along with tantilizing undertones of wood varnish & sour candy. There are several phenotypes of Sour Diesel in circulation; ranging from the dank-petrol-funk of East Coast Sour Diesel (and its proverbial mind-bending narcotic effect), to the sour-candy euphoria of West Coast Sour Diesel (with its 100% crisp electric energy).

CANNABIS CULTURE - Jason King features the super heady and high-yielding Sour Diesel as his Favorite Bud in Issue #71 of Cannabis Culture Magazine Recent years have seen a lot of hype about Sour Diesel, but the pure strain is so fantastic that I decided to feature it this issue. Sour Diesel appears on a very short list of strains that are not only super heady, but also heavy yielding. (Most of the super-heady strains out there are low-yielders, partly justifying their outrageous prices.) In fact, Sour Diesel grown outdoors with ample sun, water, and fertilizers can top five pounds per plant. Grown indoors she is no slouch either, yielding up to half a pound per plant if grown large. Properly grown Sour Diesel has such a strong aroma and flavor that it absolutely requires jar containing if you don’t want to reek up your whole neighborhood! The aroma is a heavy, skunky, “road-kill” sour scent with a sublime lemony musk overtone, and the intense flavor transitions to a perfect aftertaste that’s Skunk to the max. It leaves you with wicked cottonmouth! As for the high, well, let me assure you: Sour Diesel is strong shit, hits you in the head quite hard, and can make your eyes very red! Sour Diesel was created (accidentally) when a Massachusetts Super Skunk pollinated a pure Diesel mother plant. The results, as they say, are history. Everyone seems to be growing Sour Diesel these days and the market can’t get enough of it; but watch out for cheap impostors and re-crosses! Flowering time is approximately eight weeks indoors, while outdoor plants will finish in early October!

Sour Diesel strain marijuana is one of the strongest smelling buds that you will come across. From the time that Sour Diesel cannabis plants approach the flowering period, to when it is harvest and even bagged to sell, the Sour Diesel strain emits a pungent scent resembling a sour citrus, or lemon combined with a strong scent similar to gasoline.

Beyond the citrus end of the pot palate spectrum lies a sour lemon tang tending toward the heavy pungency of an open drum of diesel. This odor is so strong in Reservoir’s Sour Diesel strain that it may need to be masked during growing if stealth is a goal or necessity. Even when dried and carried in a pocket, these buds are smelly enough to raise suspicions. Reservoir drew on the Mexican sativa family and the sativa hybrid Chemo in an effort to produce the most psychedelic non-haze sativa possible.
