Hindu Kush strains are almost 100% Indica and show it in their stature. Pure Indica plants are much shorter and stockier than their Sativa counterparts, and the Hindu Kush strain epitomizes this, hardly ever reaching 160cm. Hindu Kush flowers anywhere between 48 and 70 days and is grown indoors, using the Sea of Green technique. If grown outside, plants are usually ready for harvest in October. Hindu Kush can yield up to 450 grams per square meter and reach THC count of up to 20%.

Hindu Kush stands out for its potency and consistency across harvests when compared to the many other Afgahni strains that originate from the same western Himalayan mountain range from which it gets its name. These traits have made the Hindu Kush 100% Indica genetics a favorite building block for breeding hybrids. Hindu Kush grows easily indoors and outdoors, making it an ideal choice for beginning marijuana growers. Seasoned commercial growers also favor Hindu Kush for its compact plant size and rock solid genetics. Its short height grows very little after flower begins allowing it to fit well in smaller indoor gardens while still producing an admirable yield. And Hindu Kush is known to produce a consistent results harvest after harvest, so growers can expect a uniform crop most every time. Hindu Kush is also known to be a good strain for making hash.

Kiwi Seeds: From high in the mountains around Afghanistan, Pakistan and Northern India come the indica family of Cannabis. Hindu Kush is your typical indica plant. Huge wide leaves deep green, almost blue in colour, and fingers that often overlap each other. Short and stocky in growth habit with lower branches that grow all the way nearly to the top. Flower clusters are dense and form all the way along the branches. Extremely heavy resin production, early maturation, and good yields are characteristics of this strain. All this make the Hindu Kush strain a valuable plant for breeders and an important part of many modern hybrids. Type: indoor, greenhouse. Height: 100-120 cm. Yield: 400-500 grams/m2.

Back in 1979, two companies forever changed the Cannabis industry by stabilizing cultivars – landrace varieties that were carefully selected by indigenous populations for various reasons, over decades or centuries – and hybridizing them for personal and commercial production. Sacred Seeds was established in California and the Lowland Seed Co. was founded in the Netherlands; these were the first two Cannabis seed companies in the world. Sacred Seeds released the Skunk No. 1, Afghani No. 1, Hindu Kush and Original Haze in 1980, which effectively made the modern industry possible – nearly everything that you grow or smoke these days contains at least a trace of such genetics. For decades, these four had been meticulously protected and maintained by the Flying Dutchmen seed bank under the names Skunk #1, Afghanica, Pot of Gold and Original Haze.

The disputed region known as the Hindu Kush shares its boundaries with Pakistan and Afghanistan just north of Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir. The area has long been known for its ongoing conflicts as well as its history of cannabis and hashish production. Part of the legendary Himalayas mountain range, the fertile valleys and hillsides of the Hindu Kush have, for centuries, produced the world’s finest hash. Years of natural and human selection for the most resinous, indica-dominant plants have resulted in short, stocky bushes covered with huge, shiny trichomes.

Additional Information

Pure indicas tend to knock people out, but Sensi’s famous Hindu Kush has a more desirable zesty quality to it, as well as a rich, hashy smoke that tickles the nose and enlightens the senses. This odiferous strain has a super-short flowering time, coupled with the ablity to start filling out right away for big, fast yields. Great for beginners and experts alike, Hindu Kush is known for its pungent notes of sweetness followed by hints of sandalwood, which distinguish it from the Kush we know and love in the USA. Ken from Sensi Seeds calls their Hindu Kush “a classic, definitive indica sometimes referred to as ‘Afghanica,’with the characteristic wide, dark green leaves and strong branching that make it an excellent building block for serious and hobbyist breeders.” Indeed, cannabis botanists worldwide use a Sensi Seeds Hindu Kush male in their programs for stability. It also makes terrific hash with an old-school scent and flavor.

Hindu Kush has a calming body effect paired with a head high that's remarkably clear, considering its pure Indica ancestry. These traits make it an effective marijuana strain for patients seeking pain relief without the debilitating couch lock that is common with powerful Indicas.

Hindu Kush plants have a milder, enjoyable taste than Afghani Indicas and are known to smell like sandalwood and charas. The high has a mesmerizing, knock you on your ass effect, though it is a calm and meditative high as opposed to one where the outcome is a complete freeze of the brain.

Sensi Seeds description: This pure Indica seed-strain originates in the Hindu Kush - a mountain range that has been home to legendary cannabis varieties for centuries. Since being brought to the west, these seeds have been selectively bred over many generations, always within their own gene-pool. As a result, Hindu Kush is an excellent variety for indoor crops from seed, producing very consistent and uniform seedlings. Potency is medium-to-high with the mellow, happy body vibration possessed by the classic Indica strains. Hindu Kush also imparts a calm, contemplative mental state, instead of the brain-numbing `stone` of later Indica hybrids.
