The hard work and long wait paid off as Chernobyl was recognized by High Times magazine as one of the Top Ten Strains of 2010. This is a heavy-hitting, long lasting strain affecting both mind and body. The high comes on slowly and combines a relaxing, creative euphoria coupled with an energizing focus relieving a wide variety of ailments and providing motivation to carry on with the day’s activities. With a flavor that has been described as lime sherbert, Chernobyl is a good go-to strain for morning and daytime use.

Chernobyl is best grown indoors, but does very well outdoors as well. It’s probably not a good choice for beginner or even novice growers. This plant can get big fast, and if left untrained, it can easily get out of control. For maximum yield, it is recommended to top the plant early, and it often needs to be topped several times. You want to keep the plants low, bushy, and compact.

Retaining the height of its mother, Chernobyl responds well to being pruned. It needs to be supported when it begins flowering. For optimal yields, plants of this strain should be topped early and then trained to take up less vertical space. Chernobyl finishes flowering in eight to nine weeks.

Originally bred by TGA Seeds, Chernobyl is best grown indoors, but does very well outdoors too. You'll need to wait 8 to 9 weeks before pulling these plants for drying and patient curing. … For maximum yield on your home grown Chernobyl medicinal cannabis plants, perform some early topping and then train them to bush out and stay low. Remember, these plants can grow huge if left untrained, so be liberal with your topping, trimming and bending.

History

When I came out west I started on a quest for the best Trainwreck cutting I could find. I was not impressed with the Arcata cutting as it was too tall, too slow, and too bi-sexual for my taste. I had written off this legendary strain until I came across an amazing plant discovered by Smokescreen. Found inside a bag of dank, of the few seeds I found one female exhibited all of the traits of the famous Trainwreck without producing a single male stamen, even in late flowering. The complex coloring that shows up late in the plant's life is a thing of beauty and the potency of this mother is epic. Extremely potent, smoking just a few bowls is an adventure in respiratory failure and flat lining your brain waves. We decided to combine this incredible female with the genetics of Jack the Ripper.

Subcool had given up on the idea of using Trainwreck in a cross. The Arcata was tall, slow flowering, and had a high chance of gender bending. All this changed the day Subcool met Smokescreen, who had a solution. Finally, Subcool had the plant containing the better qualities of Trainwreck without the high chance to hermie (switch genders). Trainwreck, crossed with Trinity, was then pollinated by a male Jack the Ripper owned by Dioxide. The result was terrific. Chernobyl became one of High Times Strains of the Year in 2010. It is a long-lasting, lime-tasting, and mind-melting Sativa-dominant hybrid.

Additional Information

Chernobyl is genetically Sativa dominant (60%), and a hybrid cross of Trainwreck x Trinity x Jack the Ripper. It has a strong Indica backbone (40%), which helps alter the high-energy sativa effect, to a more mellow body buzz. The aroma and terpene profile of Chernobyl is astounding, and very fragrant. The first scent to hit my nose is that of a very fresh, sweet lime. Almost comparable to a limeade beverage with a slice of lemon. However, after a few minutes of smelling these flowers, a trace of a soft, subtle basil herb comes through also. The taste of Chernobyl follows the scent profile, almost to a “T.” As the smoke rolls off the back of your tongue as you inhale, the limeade/lime tastes come through. It’s a nice delicate lime flavor that reminds me of key lime pie, without the cream. As I exhale, I taste the sweetness of basil and possibly a hint of pine also, which doesn’t surprise me since Chernobyl has Trainwreck genetics. Due to the almost perfect balance between the sativa and indica proportions of Chernobyl, the effects follow suit in almost the same ratio. As I finished my joint, I realized I was a lot more relaxed than before medicating, but I still had energy to continue my day with motivation, but now with a “go with the flow” demeanor or attitude, without feeling rushed. I noticed my joint pain taper off as I put mental energy elsewhere, which allowed me to relax my muscles more… and hours later, am still feeling the effects of that, with decreased muscle spasms and pain in my joint areas.

This is yet another great sativa-dominant hybrid that also provides some quality pain relief. The high was a mixture of soaring cerebral effects and a numbing of the body that was rather pleasant. This strain includes all the best qualities of Trainwreck, and the added qualities of Trinity and Jack the Ripper are just icing on the cake—or more resin on the buds...literally.
